Redrawing the New York-Comics Relationship

Jewish History

  • Sarna, Jonathan – American Judaism: A History: Probably the best overview of Jewish American history in print. Covers a broad array of topics, both secular and religious, and pays attention to the wider context in which American Judaism has developed.
  • Wenger, Beth S. – History Lessons: The Creation of American Jewish Heritage: A study of the creation of American Jewish heritage and the promotion of the idea that Judaism and Americanism are inherently compatible, fusing Jewish history with the American present and future. The book offers an excellent insight into the ideas that were common when many of the Jewish pioneers of American comics were growing up.
